Hello All,
I am Will Holobowicz, the 2013 Dixie Cup Organizer. They warned me it was a
tough job, but I drank the kool aid as more than one good friend has put
it. LOL!
*I need your help!* We’ve received 1111 beers (That’s the exact count of
received entries – *no shit!) *that people like you and me entered, and *I
need your help*. The Foam Ranger club needs your help. The 30th annual
Dixie Cup needs your help to make it the best judged Dixie Cup in 30 years.
*I am sounding the beer alarm!!!*
I took on this role of Dixie Cup Organizer because I am passionate
about *making
beer*, *judging beer*, and *drinking beer*, and *this club* *and Dixie
Cup!*I truly care about making this homebrewing hobby better for
everyone. The
feedback someone gets from *our solid core* of BJCP card carrying pool of
judges*, **plus our community* of other experienced judges and brewing
professionals in the greater Houston area is going to help make all the
difference.
I have learned that this hobby is fantastic. But it* thrives because of
volunteers taking the time to give me feedback, to nurture me, and every
other brewer - to help us all learn to become a better brewers and want to
continue homebrewing. *It is that excitement each and every year at the
Dixie Cup that keeps that homebrew torch lit.
There is a reason that the Dixie Cup is so highly regarded by the rest of
America. * We lead by example. We all know we have fun stories of drinking
Barleywine for breakfast, or Sly Bastard frivolity, toilet insurance,
breaking glasses on peoples heads, but all that aside, JUDGING is the hard
part and we must all join together and work through the mountain of entries.
*
*It is an colossal judging event, but how do we eat that, ONE session at a
time....one entry at a time!*
I have been to 3 Dixie Cups and had a great time at each of them, but I had
a great time because I participated and volunteered. I helped make those
Dixie Cups I participated in better. It makes you feel good to be a
volunteer at something as so successful as the Dixie Cup.
Make some new friends, meet up with your long lost drinking buddies, and
represent the Houston homebrew community. *Stop being wallpaper and
volunteer.*
*DO some judging, have some food too, lunch will be provided for judges and
stewards, and have a brew after the judging.*
You can help make this 30th Dixie Cup better but I need your time and your
skills to make this happen.
The *Dixie Cup does not run itself on auto pilot. It takes a village of
people. *It takes volunteers, it takes judges, stewards, helpers, on so
many levels.
But it would cease to exist if we were not a homebrew contest with judging
and critical feedback to each entrant. Providing entrant feedback is our
top priority. We have to ensure quality judging is consistent and accurate.
So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME OUT and JUDGE at our next scheduled sessions
